Challenge:

For a new fall show to succeed, a television network must build and sustain interest as rapidly as possible in the pre-launch weeks. Given the competition from other networks that are simultaneously promoting their new line up, the pressure is on to stand out in a saturated market place. Alan Cohen, the chief executive of OMD, stated, “Now people need a little push to know what to watch because there's so much television. We believe that print is one of the vehicles where you want to get people to notice.” Now, with the rising popularity of social media sites such as Twitter, OMD saw an opportunity to make headlines.

Solution:

Americhip worked with The CW and OMD to create a magazine insert that allowed consumers to share their thoughts and feelings in real-time. Subscribers opened the October 5th edition of Entertainment Weekly to find a live Twitter Feed from The CW. The VIP Live insert marked the first time that an advertiser was able to create a connected community around a printed insert. Needless to say, the insert created major buzz before it was even released.
